Write your own Roman Porno screenplay

So you want to write your own Roman Porno screenplay but not sure where to start. Are you suffering from writers block and need a little inspiration. Well, help is here. Below is a handy chart overflowing with suggestions for characters, situations, locations and props to help you get you started in creating your very own Japanese soft-core film like they made in the 70’s and 80’s. All the items listed in the chart were compiled from 400* deeply researched Roman Porno movies. As impressive as this chart is it is somewhat incomplete as Nikkatsu distributed over 1100 Roman Porno films but it should be enough to get your creative juices flowing. Just follow the instructions in the headings and the plot will practically write itself.

To begin, go to section one and make selections from each column. This will be enough to sketch out a basic screenplay. If you want to add a little extra to your screenplay go to section two and look over the suggestions for bondage, perversity, violence and ways to die. But don’t go overboard. Keep in mind that good pacing, character development and narrative are just as important as steamy sex and kinky bondage. Get as creative as you want but remember your budget and shooting schedule is tight and the finished movie will generally run for only an hour.

As long as there are the prerequisite sex scenes you are free to pick any genre of film that peaks your interest. Drama, comedy, gangster, sci-fi, coming of age, western, detective, historical, religious, prison, horror, road movie, satire and social commentary have all been used. Mix and match or create something never seen before.

Once your screenplay is completed and all but assured of that Pink Grand Prix prize all you need is a producer, a director, a crew, some willing actors, a budget, filming equipment, studio space and shooting locations. You have no excuse, now get writing.

Production notes: You may be creating a sexploitation film but you don’t want to be arrested for obscenity so you must obey the rules. The display of pubic hair is not allowed. This applies to both male and female genitals. Use of a maebari** or genital tape is strongly encouraged. In post production a digital mosaic will be used to block any views of genitalia and scenes of actual or simulated sex. The use of the mosaic can be avoided with the creative use of foreground objects that cover or blocks the genital areas like a lamp, vase of flowers or a bed sheet draped just so. Although annoying the mosaic can sometimes be useful. Applying it at the right time can signal to the viewer that “penetration” has occurred even if the scene has not changed that much.

*The 400 films used for the chart are marked in the “Movie Title Index” with a (MP) & (MPC).
